Iford is a hamlet that straddles the River Frome and the Wiltshire/Somerset border. The Manor House is on the Westwood side and partly in Freshford, Somerset, but the mill, over the bridge is in Hinton Charterhouse, Somerset. The name was first noted in the grant of Westwood in 987 (copied in the 12th century) as Igford, meaning a ford with an island.

The Manor House was built in the late 15th or early 16th century, but most of what is visible is from a rebuilding as an early Georgian house c1725-1730. Inside there is a 16th century fireplace and 17th century panelling of the earlier core of the house.
