Wiltshire Museums & Heritage Centres

Many museums, especially the small ones, will not be re-opening yet. Those that do may have restricted opening times and may require booked timed tickets. Check their websites before visiting.
At the beginning of September 2020, the following museums in Wiltshire have re-opened, some on a limited basis: Chippenham Museum, Salisbury Museum, Wiltshire Museum at Devizes, Boscombe Down Aviation Museum, REME Museum at Lyneham, The Merchant’s House at Marlborough, The Rifles Museum at Salisbury, Stonehenge Visitor Centre. Some National Trust and English Heritage properties have also re-opened.

- Devizes: The Wiltshire Museum† -The premier collection of archaeology in northern Wiltshire, part of the Wiltshire Archaeology & Natural History Society.
- Lacock: Fox Talbot Museum† -National Trust museum of photography
- Lackham Agricultural Museum -closed and its collection dispersed; the Wiltshire Folklife collection is now part of the Wiltshire Museum, Devizes.
- Lyneham: REME Museum† -Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers army museum, relocated to Wiltshire
- Malmesbury: Athelstan Museum† – Formerly North Wiltshire Council, now independent
- Market Lavington Museum† * – Small independent local history collection, with a big Museum Blog site
- Marlborough: The Merchant’s House -17th century interiors
- Melksham: Well House Collection -a private local history collection
- Mere Museum† – Small independent museum in the town’s library
- Pewsey Heritage Centre† – Independent collection in an agricultural engineer’s works
- Purton Museum†* – Independent museum of the local history society, in the library building
- Salisbury Museum† – The main museum for Salisbury and South Wiltshire
- Salisbury: The Wardrobe (Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum)† -for the Wiltshire Regiment history
- Stonehenge Visitor Centre (English Heritage)
- Swindon: Museum of Computing†
- Swindon: Steam† -The museum of the Great Western Railway
- Swindon Museum & Art Gallery† -Municipal multi-disciplinary museum
- Lydiard Park†, near Swindon -Stately home/art gallery/museum/park
- Trowbridge Museum† – Town Council museum, with a special interest in the woollen cloth industry. Closed for expansion and redisplay, now scheduled to reopen in February 2021
- Warminster: Dewey Museum– Local history society collection, displayed in the library.
